A California mother refused to let her son finish his homework. She then wrote a scathing note to the teacher. She later posted a photo of her message to the teacher online. The photo has garnered a lot of pushback from the community. You'll be surprised at what she wrote and why it's so controversial.
Fox 5 reports Tara Cali of Bakersfield uploaded the photo below after her son was asked to name the 5 pillars of Islam, and given a barcode that he could scan on his phone to listen to an Islamic prayer.
The frustrated mother writing to her son's teacher: "My son will not be a part of this in any sort of way. This is bad teaching material. He will not partake. If you have a problem, with it call our lawyer." A copy of the message is printed below.
Metro reports Cali also claimed the school didn't teach lessons like that on Christianity - listing specific bible references.
But many in the community and those who saw the viral photo didn't share the Bakersfield mother's belief that it was a bad lesson. Metro reporting that Facebook user Lesley Harrison wrote, "I am a teacher and completely agree that this should be taught as a part of world history curriculum. And that QR code is an awesome, interactive idea. I actually love this assignment."
Another commenter, Nick Miranda, also adding: "How can we grow and work towards understanding if we won’t allow our children the opportunity to learn about other cultures in a world history class?"
